ICOH Code of Ethics

AOEC adopted the International Commission on Occupational Health Code (ICOH) of Ethics in 1995. Members of AOEC determined that developing a new code specific to AOEC was not necessary. A detailed examination of several codes of ethics was undertaken in 1994 and the ICOH code was chosen as the best code for the multi-disciplinary membership of AOEC. This decision was reaffirmed in 2004 when the membership voted to adopt the 2002 version of the ICOH Code of Ethics.

A complete explanation of the reasons AOEC adopted the ICOH Code of Ethics is outlined in an article in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (JOEM). The citation is: Brodkin CA, Frumkin H, Kirkland K, Orris P. AOEC Position Paper on the Organizational Code for Ethical Conduct. J Occup Environ Med. 1996; 38(9): 869-881. For those without access to JOEM, a copy of the article is available from the AOEC office.
